I have ben having terrible scalp itch , for about a week or two...At first I thought It was the chlorine in my pool.... But the weather has not allowed me in the pool for about a week...
This is a deep, deep itch and all over, my whole scalp itches terribly.....Hubby has looked and it is not dry scalp or dandruff... .....I have one tiny spot of p there....Ok, am I headed for a major break out and this is a sign? I have never had more than a few small P spots on my scalp, ever!! Helppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

There is an anti-itch scalp solution that is over the counter. It's called scalpicin and it's odorless and very fast drying. I't not used to actually treat the symptoms of P other than the itch so it won't reduce redness or flakiness, but it used to do wonders for my itchy scalp. I still see it in walgreens but haven't needed it in a long, long time.
Here is the link to the product home page: http://www.scalpicin.com/scalpitch.shtml |

Proior to SCALP PSORIASIS I used to get terrible itchies from any herbal shampoo.....I would have to wash it out and just use Prell or something very common....forgot all about that til you mentioned it....so you might want to try switching shampoos...even if they aren't herbal..... you can develop a sensitivity to something at any time...

itching scalp
I suddenly got a really bad itching scalp at the age on 17 and have been on steroid treatment Betnovate since then. Every time I try to come off it and try a non steroid treatment it flares back up. Once you go down the steroid route is there no way back !!??

scalpicin
My luck was not good with scalpicin. I found it to make my head worse--I believe it has alcohol and that ingredient I can't remember....scalyic (sp?) acid. (I just butchered that ingredient name. Someone else will know what it is.)
I haven't found anything to "cure" the itch. Sometimes I sleep with olive oil on my scalp so that my skin isn't dry. Sometimes I need allegra to help relieve the itch. I had a friend recommend I wear a baseball cap to help avoid scratching. Good luck! Hang in there! I'm hoping someone will post some wonderful suggestion to help you, and all of us, out. |

OK, my tip for scalp itch suferers..... Don't wash your hair for a couple days and let the natural oils accumulate.
Also, I'm not sure if deb was using any special shampoos or conditioners that are for dandruff/psoriasis, but sometimes those cause the itchiness. Salicyclic acid causes alot of dryness and itchiness (tsal, dermarest), but really cause plaques/dandruff to rinse out or fall out when scalp is dry. Coaltar shampoos (tgel, tons of other dandruff/P shampoos) do it a different way, and are more mild. Not sure if any of these things would help, but they have helped me. Thanks for the compliments on the wee girl. More here. The wee boy is cute too...but is very loud! lol |

Hi Linda
I brought the baking soda tips up so you can read that too but remember its an ongoing thing.....you have to keep doing it....Brandy's scalp, last she reported is clear from swimming in the pool with it....

Wanted to let you all know that I tried the baking soda -- Flakes are MUCH better -- almost gone. Itch is no better, but you can deal with one problem better than two!
