Taclonex and UVB laser/phototherapy (i think)
I was wondering if anyone has tried the UVB laser/phototherapy thing. I went to three appointments for it and I quit because I wasn't seeing results and I just keep getting even more depressed. Ive used taclonex to where it cleared it up but left white spots where the psoriasis used to be and then it came back. Its too expensive to keep using so I was just wondering if anyone has tried the laser thing and how effective is it and how do you keep from more psoriasis flaring up. heres a picture of my psoriasis.
this is just whats on my leg. I have more on my other leg, little bit on my arms, stomach and back is where it is worse at. http://i37.tinypic.com/dhedkw.jpg sorry the pic is so big. |

Hi brit - Sorry you're feeling down right now. Are you getting a laser treatment or UVB phototherapy? (The phototherapy is where you stand in a "box" of vertical lights for a minute or so.) If you're doing UVB phototherapy, it takes between 20 and 30 treatments to see significant results, so you would be giving up way too soon.
If you can't afford to keep doing the UVB treatments, you might check the Complementary section for a thread called Barney's Formula. Or you could check the website of the man who developed it - http://www.barneysformula.net This is basically a set of supplements (nothing weird) that have helped a lot of people with psoriasis. Not everybody, but quite a few. It would certainly be worth a try. Also, since p is an inflammatory disorder, you might try cutting foods out of your diet that promote inflammation. The worst offenders are: eggs, liver, and fatty meats (such as hot dogs, sausage, ribs, chicken with the skin on, and farm-raised salmon). There is a lot of info about diets on the complementary section as well. Good luck to you, DottieD |

Brit,
It has been my experience that some of the topicals work for a short time. Your body develops an immume to them, then they stop working. The white spots are where the medication has bleached the skin. taclonex never seemed to help me a all. Steve |

UVB treatments are the best for psoriasis however, you do need to give it time. Three treatments maybe you won't see improvement right then but you need to go afterwards. Each time you go they will increase the time you are in the light box depending on skin type. Also, in having light treatments your body will look red that day but the next day it should improve. THIS IS NOT A QUICK FIX YOU NEED TO GIVE IT TIME! Rome wasn't built in a day. I have to use a combination of things to help control my psoriasis and you might be that type of person. I have Humira, Lidex Ointment, Chlobestal Ointment, Trimmicolon Ointment, Eucerin Creams/Lotions and Oatmeal Baths by Aveeno. I have not used laser treatment or used a tanning salon. However, all treatments take time and you need to always check with your doctor first. I hope this helps and check with your doctor first, always!!! |
