do you think boosting the immune system will help p?
Heres what I' m wondering.
We now know that p. is caused by an over active immune system. Well, why would boosting your immune system help with p.
After all, biologicals suppresse your immune response.
I have read several books about vita nutrients and how with proper diet and nutriential supplements we can somewhat reverse RA. and crohns disease, etc.. All of these are immune diseases.
Is anyone following what Im trying to say?
One suppresses, one builds it up. Im confussed here.

Most diets and suppliments don't help psoriasis because they boost the immune system. As a matter of fact most diets that help P are more about what is excluded from ones diet rather than what they actually intake. Of course there are various vitamins and the such that are generally good for the skin and its hydration. Just a point of correction....P is not so much an overactive immune system as much as it is a misguided immune system. Although there are aspects that point to "hyperactivity" in the immune system the actual "fight" that is going on is the immune system misfires and starts to "attach" our skin cells thus causing a higher rate of reproduced skin cells causing inflamation that comes in the from of P.

I have been told that people with P have a higher resistance to disease because our immune system is "over-active." However, I still get several sore throats and colds througout the year.
However, I like Chaim's description. I think mis-guided is probably more correct.
When I was on Amevive, the doctor continued to monitor by blood counts. He said my T-cell counts were coming down like they were supposed to, but my P did not clear up. If just an overactive immune system was the problem, this should have helped....but it didn't.
So, while our immune systems may be overactive, I do not think that is the complete picture. Good description, Chaim!

food for thought
On top of a severe case of P, I have severe allergies. Is that a common thread for people with P?
-
I have no allergies - at least that I am aware of.
However, when I was a baby, I supposedly was allergic to a lot of things. I even had a "rash" all over - I think it was probably P - but it was never diagnosed.
My family went on a vacation (to the Rocky Moutains) and they said I cleared right up. No allergies or rash. Never had a problem again until I turned 15. Then, P came on like gangbusters. Has been that way ever since. Maybe I need to go back to the Rocky Mountains.

I also was born with many allergies, but grew out of them all. I am still lactose intolerant, but that is not an allergy because with Lactaid I can eat all the dairy I want. If I'm not mistaken though allergies are an autoimmune response as well.

allergies
I too had skin problems as a tiny one. Up until the age of one, I had infantile excema all over my body. It seems there are a few of us who were sensitive then.

ummm good question
I have no real bad allergies...Problems with Lactose but nothing I can really think of
I shall dwell on this question and see what I find.
