    Shoes for terrible foot psoriasis?

    Hi!
Hope everyone is having a great day. I have hand and foot p and Pa. I am tired of living in slippers and since it's getting cold soon flip flops won't be wearable outside. Does anyone have a good idea for a really comfortable shoe of some kind that will be better for the feet?

    Thanks Mike

    Hi
Thank's Mike for your reply. I'm hanging in there. I've been taking enbrel and light treatments and had some clearing till I put sneakers and socks back on the other day and poof it's worse again. I am doomed to stay in the house with open slippers I think. Aetna rejected the motorized scooter (wheelchair) for me to get around on as not medically necessary which I am going to try and fight. I am also working at trying to get a light box at home so hopefully I can go back to working someday.

Hope all is well with you

    Karen

    Hi Karen!

Oh No! I'm sorry to hear that you took a turn for the worse.

I'm sorry to hear that Aetna denied your request for a scooter. Keep fighting! Did you know that the NPF has an insurance advocacy service? They'll help in you in any way that they can. They'll even write letters on your behalf. Here's a link that describes the service: http://www.psoriasis.org/medical/advocacy/ and here's the NPF's contact information:

    National Psoriasis Foundation
    6600 SW 92nd Ave., Suite 300
    Portland, OR 97223-7195
    Phone: (503) 244-7404 OR (800) 723-9166
    Fax: (503) 245-0626
    E-mail: getinfo@psoriasis.org

Their hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and their in the Pacific Time Zone.

Also, contact the manufacturers of the scooter and the light unit that you are considering. Many medical suppliers also intervene, on behalf of their patients, in disputes with insurance companies. They'll know how to word things so that you can hopefully get the help you need.

Good luck. Hang in there. Keep us posted and please don't be a stranger.

    Hi

Not sure this will help, but it can't hurt to check it out. I received a catalog and it looks like they have some good products you can explore. The web site is www.footsmart.com

I hope you find something, so you won't be stuck in the house all winter.

    Good Luck and god Bless.

    feet p

I have p psoriasis. At least my derm. says it is. Since I have widespread p at the moment, she says that the feet too are affected. I have some p on the sides and the top of my foot, and she also says that it's manifested itself in a strange way on the soles. She wasn't totally sure that it was p at first... just peeling skin and layers of hardness form quickly at the back of the foot and the ball since, I presume, most pressure is put there when walking.

I was wondering how p manifests itself on the soles of your foot. Personal question I know and I understand if you'd prefer not to answer.

Btw, the p on my hand has cleared recently. At first, my derm. said that I had a foot infection and I was put on antibiotics. The foot cleared a little as did the hands, but then, two culture tests showed that I had no sign of infection. My derm said that she thought that the hands were showing signs as an id reaction from the feet because, basically, they're very closely related in terms of DNA. What happens to one, usually happens to the other ... so she tells me.

I have problems with shoes too. I can understand how you feel and how miserable it is when it's difficult feeling comfortable in nice footwear. Someone here sent me a link and it encouraged me to shop at the right places. The winter is always worse for my foot p too.

    Take very good care....

    Post Foot psoriasis

    Hi,

To answer the question about foot p:

I've had it for soooooooo long! lol... Mine manifests differently on the tops than the soles. On the tops of my feet, I get what appear to be typical guttate spots, melding together and forming a nation over time.

On the soles, I get very tough and thick callouses on the heels and balls of my feet. In the arch, I get what looks like indented guttate spots, and they shed a lot, but not without friction. When I go edermic, I get horrid peeling of the entire sole, very painful.

I've been a pedicure client monthly for many years, out come the razors to shave the callouses, the pumice for the arches and tops. I come out looking pretty, but within a month they are needing to be shaved again, literally.

One of the things that cleared up within two weeks of beginning the enbrel was my feet. They look wonderful. I did have severe pa disease in my feet as well, so don't know what that tells you.

Went for my monthly pedicure, and for the first time, no razors needed, just some mild pumice. The spots are all gone.

I have found the birkenstock line of shoes to be helpful. Clark and Borne are good too. They aren't any of them very fashionable looking ( though they are improving ).

    Hope that answers your questions.

    this might help

Hi i read your posts, and though i have no solution in terms of footware, i found something that may be of help. there are special socks and gloves that you can wear after you put on your ointments that will help it heal and be mosturized better. they are available at Sephora. Sephora is a make up store that is usually located in the malls. When you are there, it should be in the "tools" section. this should help with those of you who have foot and hand p.

I am home with a new pair of Danskos and happier feet, but my mouth almost dropped when I read that you are getting pedicures PJ!!! I stopped getting them when the p began.......where/how did you go about finding or asking someone to do the pedicure with your p? I think I would be in heaven if I could find someone who would be willing to do mine!
