    clobex spray questions - help

    I used clobex spray 2 x/day week 1 and 1 time/day week 2, I then took a week off.

I experienced complete clearing of some patches and others faded out almost completely.

A week has passed and i'm ready to begin once again. I have a few questions:

    (1) do I follow the same schedule agaij or is it fine to apply 1 x day for 2 weeks?

    (2) I found that the redness has come back to certain areas as if I had not even used it and other spots remain clear for now.
Will this continuosly happen or will I see these stuborn areas get longer clearing with time?

Please give feedback as I'm beginning to lose my wits....

How about just following what your doctor or the manufacture says to do?

While you get rather rapid clearing using a topical steroid, it is usually very short lived compared to other types of treatments.

    Hi Sabatia,

Clobex spray has clobetasol propionate in it. Clobetasol propionate a Class 1 or Super Potent Steriod. Most derms limit it's use to two weeks max followed by a break of at least a couple of weeks. That's to limit potential side effects such as skin thinning. Your derm's dosing schedule -- i.e., twice a day for the first week and then once a day for the second weeks sounds like he or she is very conservative (that's actually a good thing) and is erring on the side of caution. That said, I'm surprised that your derm didn't tell you how long of a break to take. It's probably a good idea to wait at least another week before resuming the original schedule. You can also try limiting it's use to the weekends only.

I recently had to switch derms due to insurance reasons. My old derm (who was also very conservative) had me use Ultravate (which is also a Class 1 or Super Potent steroid) twice a day for two weeks max. She then had me use it on the weekends only for the next several weeks. She had me come in for check ups every six weeks while on was on this schedule. I was using it on my ankles and hands. She eventually saw signs of skin thinning on my ankles and asked me to stop using it there. I continued on the same schedule (i.e. on the weekends only) on my hands for the next couple of months. She didn't have me come in as frequently, because the skin on my hands was stronger then the skin on my ankles.

Unfortunately, the psoriasis usually comes back when you stop using any of the stronger steroids.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck.

    Keep us posted.

I am on clobex spray. I use it once a day for two weeks then off for two weeks. If you are unsure you should call and talk to your derm.

I'll echo what the others have said about Clobex. It, like any topical steroid, is only treating the symptons, so when you discontinue it the p will come back.

I've been using it off and on for a couple of years, and lately it doesn't seem to be as effective. I guess maybe I'm building up a resistance to it. However, I've always just used samples that my derm gave me and I noticed that the last samples were on the verge of reaching their expiration date, so maybe that explains the reduced effectiveness.
