    Probiotics

Several posters have mentioned taking probiotic supplements for their psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. One of the best sources is unsweetened yogurt. Apparently, serious research is going on to study the effects of probiotics on eczema and rhematoid arthritis. But the balance of "good bacteria" versus the proliferation of "bad bacteria" in the gut is implicated in many diseases. Here's an excellent article that explains it all.

I like an author that paints a picture with words....I could imagine the whole scene as she took us through the role of the probiotics....I stopped once( )and took my acidophilus pearl (1 billion CFU.....maintenance only) and noticed I need 2 billion more
when I talked to my doctor last year about taking a probiotic she recommended it be taken at night, allowing 8 hours to work in the system....
I notice my pearl brand says take any time.....

    great article

No yogurt for me though....milk based....so I take the pearls (probiotics)
Medicine deficiency does not cause psoriasis, but nutritional deficiency might.

I am lactose intolerant so I have to take it in the form of capsules (the natural unsweetened yogurt sounds lovely though)

For those who are taking and who have taken probiotics, have you noticed a genuine improvement with your psoriasis?

I've recently come across a lot of articles of how it positively affects p.

It seems to work wonders for those suffering from eczema as well.

I've been taking probiotics for about a month and haven't noticed any significant changes, but I am sticking with it....can't hurt.

Have any of you tried soy yogurt (for the lactose intolerant)? I never have, but see it in the stores.

I use vanilla soy yogurt in my smoothies. I get the Silk brand. It's good for that purpose. It's a bit more liquidy than dairy yogurt and has a bit of an aftertaste when eaten on its own but it's not bad.

I have been reading YOU-Staying Young by Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr.Michael Roizen. In this book they mention how important probiotics and PREbiotics are.Prebiotics are foods that help the healthy probiotics flourish.I went about 9 pages back and found this thread by Whoatrigger. He has been in remission for years and doesn't post on here all that often anymore.I figure if you read some of the posts from the people that have gone into remission, you may gain some insight as to how they did it.Besides organic yogurt,I have been taking kefir http://www.lifeway.net/product/helios.php and also this stuff called kombucha http://www.gtskombucha.com/ It's like a science experiment in a bottle. Some of the PREbiotics listed in the book are:bannanas, berries, asparagus, garlic, wheat, oatmeal, barley(and other whole grains)flaxseed, tomatoes,Jeruselam artichokes, onions, chicory, greens and legumes

Thumbs up actually that is a GREAT idea

That is such a great idea!....I wonder if the moderators would consider a subject section called "remission" where people who have gone into remission (from the past and the present) could share all they did to get them to that point.

I THINK THAT WOULD BE SO SO SO HELPFUL TO ALL OF US. I spend lots of time looking throughout hundreds of threads looking to see what has been working for people.

How can we get this to a moderator to suggest it?
