    MAGNESIUM FOR PSORIASIS

Here is the article from Bob on "EASE THAT ITCH" WRITTEN BY CAROLY DEAN

    http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cach...&gl=us&ie=UTF-8

I've been researching magnesium for a long time...I think I bought the book by Carolyn Dean about 2 years ago...she doesn't mention applying magnesium transdermally...but I did find out that is the best way of getting it absorbed...... I had a stiff shoulder from I don't know what, but it hurt!!!! I applied magnesium oil and gel alternately and it took the pain away by 80% immediately! second day continued and it is still helping (today )
here is an article by an OMD that really helped me to understand how well it helps in so many areas of our well being....

    Magnesium and Medicine

It never ceases to amaze me how much there is to learn about medicine and health, and specifically about the absolute necessity for healthcare workers of every type to wake up to the amazing power of magnesium chloride when applied directly to the skin. In my book Transdermal Magnesium Therapy I wrote one powerful line of prose that equated magnesium in importance to the air we breathe. It is without doubt an essential element, like water, and in fact when the water we drink is deficient or devoid of magnesium we have a serious health problem on our hands that requires action and resolution.

When it comes to magnesium, even when something is discovered that would help us and our children, the medical establishment ignores the fact. A good example of this: an obviously important study was published back in February of 1995, in Vol. 95, Number 2, p. 263 of Pediatrics. It showed that very low birth weight babies have a lower incidence of cerebral palsy (CP) when their mothers are treated with magnesium sulfate shortly before giving birth. This means that many babies could be helped using the transdermal magnesium oil I champion; it could very easily be applied to women’s bellies.

This intriguing finding means that use of a simple medication could significantly decrease the incidence of cerebral palsy and prevent
lifelong disability and suffering for thousands of Americans.
    Dr. Zach W. Hall
Director of National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
Dr. Karin B. Nelson speculated that magnesium may play a role in brain development and possibly prevent cerebral hemorrhage in preterm infants. In animal models, magnesium has been associated with decreased brain injury after the brain has been deprived of oxygen. This is especially important for humans because doctors and nurses tend to cut the cord much too quickly after birth, simultaneously reducing blood volume, pressure and oxygen to the brain.

According to researchers who recently performed the first high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging studies on healthy newborns one quarter of babies born vaginally suffer small hemorrhages in their brains, perhaps from compression of the head during delivery. Most of this is probably due to the unnatural position women in hospitals are forced to assume during labor and delivery. Women on their backs and sacrum force the birth canal to constrict, closing the vagina by as much as thirty percent. Naturally this would put a big squeeze on infants’ brains as they come through the birth canal.

Magnesium, which is without doubt the most powerful safe nutritional “drug” on earth, is not considered a drug at all when taken orally or when used topically as a bath oil or salt. Doctors who know something about magnesium (very few) know that it is routinely used in emergency rooms to save lives in cases of cardiac arrest as well as for stroke victims. And here is something else I did not know about magnesium until recently:

Magnesium infusion reduces the requirement for other drugs to control
muscle spasms and cardiovascular instability in cases of severe tetanus.

Obviously no doctor’s office or family medicine cabinet should be without it. Magnesium chloride solutions gained from sea water evaporation (or by industrial pharmaceutical fabrication) offers a medical miracle to humanity, the one that many have sought but have not found. Nothing short of a miracle is to be expected in terms of general health status if cellular levels of magnesium are increased during illness. There is no wonder drug that can claim, in the clear, what magnesium chloride can. Approximately nine out of ten people will show dramatic improvements in the state of their health when they replete their magnesium levels and the very best way to do that is with magnesium chloride gained from the sea. With such “brine solutions” it is simple to apply the concentrate to the skin or pour it into bath water for a medical treatment without equal. Of course this is medical blasphemy which will upset public health officials.

In today's restrictive medical atmosphere seawater can only be referred
to as a "mineral drink". If the word "cure" were uttered or written
in relation to a brand name, the "offense" would be legally actionable.

The medical industrial complex is in trouble because they will not be able to restrict the use of magnesium chloride, which is available even in certain natural salts. A medical wonder drug is now widely available, one that is vastly cheaper, safer and more effective than anything the pharmaceutical companies have been able to develop. I have used the word miracle freely above in reference to both naturally derived magnesium chloride solutions and also the more toxic over-the-counter pharmaceutical grade type of magnesium chloride because both produce dramatic changes in person after person. So clear and observable are the effects that there is no mistake, no mysticism, no false claim made. Magnesium chloride is officially and legally a medicine when it is injected and that is of course with only the pharmaceutically produced powder, which unfortunately has about 25 times the amount of heavy metal pollution than natural sea brines, and it is especially heavy in lead. But that is also typical, since allopathic medicine always prefers the more toxic substances.

There are two mammoth unconsidered factors linked to the horrendous rise in diabetes in adults and children. The first is deficiency in magnesium, and the other is chemical poisoning. Another major contributing factor that is frequently ignored when we examine the onset of diabetes is dehydration. Magnesium deficiency is a predictor of diabetes; diabetics both need more magnesium and lose more magnesium than most people. In two new studies, using both men and women, those who consumed the most magnesium in their diet were least likely to develop type 2 diabetes, according to a report in the January 2006 issue of the journal Diabetes Care.

Magnesium chloride, when applied directly to the skin, is transdermally absorbed and has an almost immediate effect on chronic and acute pain. Transdermal magnesium therapy is also ideal for athletes who need high levels of magnesium. Oral magnesium is much less effective than transdermal magnesium in the treatment of injuries and tired worn out muscles. Perhaps the biggest difference between oral and transdermal supplementation of magnesium is seen in the area of pain management. Most importantly, according to Dr. Norman Shealy, is the fact that only through transdermal application does the master hormone DHEA shows increases.

One day soon even the beauty business is going to discover magnesium chloride as not only a natural skin rejuvenator but as a treatment for skin growths, including skin cancer. Let’s face it, a powerful cellular rejuvenator like magnesium makes us feel, and actually be, physiologically younger. Just the fact that full magnesium repletion will dramatically decrease the chance of us succumbing to a heart attack, stroke, diabetes and cancer makes it a life extender in its almost unlimited power to help us avoid both chronic and acute illnesses. Of course feeling and being younger on a cellular level is beautiful because health is beautiful. The beauty industry will enjoy having at its disposal transdermally applicable magnesium since it will help its clients actually look better. It will even stabilize and promote hair growth, such is its power on the cellular level.

If you add up all the pharmaceutical drugs that magnesium chloride can replace we are talking about hundreds of billions of dollars. This is not good news for an industry that is accustomed to making profits without end. But it is good news when you think that without the benefits to the broad population that magnesium offers, medical costs are doomed to double yet again in the coming decade.

Recently in the news it was said that grape juice seems to have the same protective effect against heart disease as red wine. "Grape juice can have a similar effect (against heart disease) as red wine but without the alcohol. That is a very important message," said Dr Valerie Schini-Kerth, lead author of a study published in the journal Cardiovascular Research. The reason? Grape juice just happens to be high in magnesium and in resveratrol. There are foods we can eat that are high in magnesium but it is almost impossible to eat our way back to full cellular magnesium levels if we are deficient. Officially, approximately 67 percent of the population is deficient in magnesium and certainly if a person eats refined foods (white rice, white bread) that number would approach 100 percent. Most processed foods actually strip food of its magnesium and in general magnesium levels in soils and foods have been dropping rapidly over the last century.

If we want health, graceful longevity, and cures for the pains, discomforts and diseases that confront us in modern life we will want to supplement heavily with magnesium chloride. Personally I choose the most natural form and that is magnesium taken from the sea. (Magnesium Oil) It is cleaner, stronger and more pleasant to use than magnesium manufactured industrially by pharmaceutical companies using hydrochloric acid. Magnesium chloride brine solutions from seawater are also rich in rare elements that are important for health and assist us in our efforts to recover from illness. I would rather have these minerals than a surplus of lead that is commonly found in fabricated products.

There are several other natural substances that stand right alongside magnesium chloride in regards to safety and effectiveness and these substances will be highlighted and promoted by the Federation for Safe and Effective Medicines (FSEM), which is associated with the International Medical Veritas Association (IMVA), whose basic mission has been to seek out the safest and most effective natural treatment alternatives possible for the principle illnesses confronting humanity.

This is info from a commercial site on dead sea salt for hot tubs and swimming pools...but good info....

    Dead Sea Salt

The KAWAR salt original mineral composition improves cell metabolism and contributes to its restoration and regeneration. It also acts as a disinfectant and help in removing harmful substances from the skin.
The Sodium ions remove skin scales and improve its permeability. After penetrating into the skin, they bind the water and generate a feeling of suppleness, ideal for very dry skin.
Magnesium concentrations found in the Dead Sea are fifteen times higher than salts in other seas. Magnesium is essential for cell metabolism. For instance, a significant deficit in Magnesium has been discovered in skin scales and serum of patients with psoriasis. Magnesium supposedly affects the ripening of skin cells of psoriasis patients. Moreover, in cases of bronchi, Magnesium works as anti-allergic agent. (for Veronica to read)

Potassium improves the oxidation and regulates the electrical process of the muscles and the nervous system. Asthma patients achieve good results from inhaling the salt vapors.

Bromide concentration is 50 times higher than common salts. Thus having a very relaxing effect. Besides other minerals found in smaller amounts, the salt contains a natural tar called Bitumen which acts as an anti inflammatory agent.

    more on the dead sea...

    The Dead Sea & Psoriasis

The Dead Sea health resort in Israel has been offering effective treatment for a variety of skin disorders including psoriasis, vitiligo and eczema for over 30 years. The results have been nothing short of astounding. In short, no other health resort of this kind, has been shown to offer such effective treatment .

Whilst many 'health spas' have benefits relating to climate, water, mud and air, very few have all of them. The Dead Sea has unique climatic conditions which have been shown to offer excellent natural treatment for many health problems, although the resort is best known for its treatment for psoriasis and related skin conditions.

The Dead Sea atmosphere: - The lowest place on earth, over 400 metres below sea level, the Dead sea region has a dense air rich in bromine and other elements which filters and limits the ultraviolet B radiation from the sun, reducing the danger of sunburn and allowing longer exposure to the sun's rays. the thicker atmospheric pressure is also associated with an increase in oxygen - 5 per cent richer than air at sea level and 10 per cent higher than the air in Jerusalem, only a two hour drive away.

The Dead Sea water: - the water in the dead sea contains 345grams of mineral salts per litre and is approximately ten times higher in saline than ocean water and enriched by hydrogen sulfide gas. The major salts are magnesium, sodium, potassium and calcium, although the proportion of sodium to total salts is, in fact, much less than that of ordinary sea water.

Drinking water: - The drinking water at the Dead Sea resort is drilled from underground aquifers or comes from fresh watersprings, some of which have been shown to have a selenium content.

Treatment for Psoriasis: - Treatment of psoriasis at the Dead sea is based upon a gradual increase in exposure to the sun combined with bathing in the Dead Sea. Cortisone preparations are not used and instead the treatment relies upon Vaseline, body oils, coal tar , sulfur and salicylic acid products. However, the main therapeutic agent is the sun, the topical applications are used principally to lubricate the skin.

The typical length of treatment is four weeks and the results of studies conducted over the past twenty years are extremely impressive, the latest study involving over 2,000 patients revealed that 60 per cent of sufferers experienced a complete clearance and a further 36 per cent experienced virtual clearance or significant improvement.

Although follow up research showed that the average remission period is 5.5. months, recurrent attacks tend to less severe than originally treated, and almost without exception, patients continue to respond well to the Dead Sea therapy . Interestingly, the recurrence of psoriasis following hydrocortisone and other conventional treatments is commonly more severe than before and, not infrequently the condition becomes resistant to treatment. Furthermore, whilst there is evidence of higher rates of skin cancer among patients who receive PUVA, there is no evidence of increased rates of skin cancer from patients who have visited the Dead Sea region in Israel.

Factors relating to the success of Dead sea treatment for psoriasis: - The successful results of the Dead Sea treatment of psoriasis may be due to a combination of the sun, the water and the climate. Undoubtedly the most important factor is exposure to the sun's rays. A recent study compared the results of sunbathing only with Dead Sea water bathing only and sunbathing and water bathing combined. Water bathing only produced an average improvement of 20 per cent; sun bathing only produced an average improvement of 72.8%, and sun bathing and water bathing produced 83.4%.

The amount of time patients should be exposed to the sun at the Dead sea has also been investigated. During July and August 1994, 45 psoriatic patients were treated at the Dead sea for 28 days using one of three sun-exposure schedules - 3 hours per day, 4.5 hours per day and 6 hours per day.

The results of that study revealed that those patients exposed to the sun for 3 hours a day experienced 91% improvement, those who were exposed for 4.5 hours experienced 87% improvement and those exposed for 6 hours experienced 88% improvement. These figures indicate that patients who visit the dead Sea during July and August only need to spend 3 hours in the sun each day.

In a further study conducted in Belgium, patients being treated with artificial UV radiation whilst being showered with water which contained 20% of mineral salts similar to those in the Dead Sea improved significantly more than the patients showered with plain water only, although the studies at the dead sea indicate that the additional improvement is only in the region of 10 per cent.

Psychological factors: - During a patient's stay at the Dead sea, it is thought that psychological factors may have an important influence. Patients tend to form mutually supportive groups and lose much of the shame and embarrassment, and are able to socialise freely and not worry about covering up their lesions. The patients also tend to become hopeful and optimistic after seeing their skin and others' improve.

Miscellaneous factors: -One or two other factors may also contribute to the success of the treatment of psoriasis at the Dead sea. The air is very high in bromine - ten to twenty times higher than that found in Jerusalem . Bromine tends to help relax patients and as the condition is well acknowledged as being stress-related, this may help alleviate the psoriasis.

One other factor is, as mentioned above, the high amount of oxygen in the air at the Dead sea. Oxygen is a vital nutrient to help cleanse and nourish the body's tissues.

    A prescription magnesium?
wow didn't know they had that!

I mentioned above my stiff shoulder and the pain from it....this has been going on for a couple months and I just figured out where it came from....I think!
After I read Dr Deans book on magnesium I took it all the time...it was the one thing that helped the night time leg and foot cramps......my doctor, a couple years ago, told me to take mag, for the leg cramps but...I didn't think that was it!!!! .......ha......

    turns out it was......

so thanks to Dr. Dean I started

then I found a good calcium/mag capsule (I had been lax about the calcium part) combo so took that and lapsed on the mag. by itself.......

after a few months the shoulder started hurting, in the muscle area....sometimes even on down the length to the elbow area! and then on up to my neck! I'm thinking ....chiropractor!

then I read the magnesium articles and put two and two together....I was experiencing too much cal without enough mag.

when I put the mag oil on the skin (transdermal) it got absorbed immediately!!!

this is the third day and I can't believe how much better the whole aching mess is!!!!

this must be great for athletes! or anyone with backache......or any aches!

I have this very small amount left, that I'm making last til my order gets here.......
I ordered a gallon of the oil so think I will be adding it to the dead sea salts in the hot tub.........since the minerals in the salts are very high in mag. that must be one reason they help psoriasis in some way.........

OK everyone...the magnesium I'm talking about is the transdermal magnesium chloride....for applying onto the skin area!!! doing this, you don't need to take any pills! in fact if you go back and read the articles you will see how much better it is to do this!!!

Here is an example of what I'm saying.....

    http://www.magnesiumforlife.com/magn...medicine.shtml

you'll notice at the top there is a title called magnesium chloride....click on it and you will see other articles!

    good luck!

    Never heard of magnesium oil.

However, I take 5g of a magnesium powder everyday (Ultra Muscleze by Bio Ceuticals) and it is fantastic.

I take it before I go to the gym to give me energy, also after the gym or after a deep tissue massage, to ease muscle pain.

Before I started taking it, I could only manage 15 mins on the treadmill but within days of starting to take it, I could manage over 60 mins.

As a strange and odd twist, if I take it before bed, it helps me sleep.

No idea if it helps my P but certainly does not harm it.

    DHEA and Magnesium
Levels of DHEA decline with age. The research suggests that supplements with the DHEA hormone in our middle age and older years will bring the levels trick to those of' youth. This could help us live longer and improve the quality of our lives. Remember that when we bring DHEA up, we also bring up the critically important mineral magnesium. There is virtually no illness that is not helped significantly by magnesium! Please review the long list of illnesses above associated with magnesium deficiency.

DHEA level is the major reflector of stress reserves and overall health. Low levels of DHEA have been reported in AIDS, Alzheimer's, many types of cancer, coronary artery disease, depression, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, hypertension, lupus, erythematosus, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and viral infections; i.e., almost all disease!

who is Dr. C. Norman Shealy

    http://normshealy.com/

in searching for magnesium oil I found several different places...some multi-level marketing but not all

the price range was from $100 a gallon to $45 a gallon!

I found some sites that explain DHEA and magnesium....one has an magnesium oil called magic Oil ...it is a commercial product but the article is very explanatory

    http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/magicoil.html

Applications of Magic Oil and reported results:

Magnesium Oil massaged into arthritic joints will often give almost instant relief from pain

Magnesium Oil sprayed on sun damaged skin regularly will begin to rejuvenate from the inside out and after a few months will be significantly restored.

Magnesium Oil sprayed on wrinkled skin will eventually begin to smooth out the wrinkles

Magnesium Oil sprayed and massaged into graying hair each evening and left on overnight, will begin to restore natural hair color within weeks and stimulate the growth of hair and greatly improve hair texture.

Magnesium Oil massaged onto balding areas of the scalp will begin to induce the growth of new hair.

Magnesium Oil sprayed into the mouth several times daily will stimulate the medulla elongata (?) and develop enamel on the teeth.

Magnesium Oil massaged into fibromyalgia type pain will often quickly provide relief

Magnesium Oil mixed into a hot bath with some Prill water, will provide a very relaxing soak while delivering a huge amount of magnesium to the cells.

Magnesium Oil rubbed regularly onto age spots will often cause them to fade and virtually disappear.

Magnesium Oil mixed with a little frankincense and myrrh and regularly rubbed into scar tissue will cause that tissue to reform into normal tissue.

Magnesium Oil rubbed onto skin tags will cause them to eventually drop off.

Magnesium Oil used in a bath or sprayed on after a shower, will relieve stress.

Magnesium Oil may be used in a foot bath or even a hand bath if circumstances or condition do not permit soaking in a tub and the full benefits of a soak can still be experienced. In only 15 to 20 minutes, our magnesium deficient bodies will extract all of the available magnesium.

Magnesium oil is best for very localized application of magnesium, like spraying it on an area of psoriasis, on arthritic joints, on resistant skin rashes, on your hair, or on any other localized problem area.

Question? Do epsom salts work the same way in a bath as the mag oil or is the oil better?

Here is where Mark Sircus talks abour Epsom salts...the full article is at the link...long article but a good one!

According to Daniel Reid the Epsom salts some people take as a magnesium supplement contains magnesium sulfate, which is rapidly excreted through the kidneys and therefore difficult to assimilate. This would explain in part why the effects from Epsom salt baths do not last. Whole sea salt contains magnesium chloride and magnesium bromide, which are easily assimilated and metabolized in the human body. Kirkman's Magnesium Sulfate Topical Cream utilizes transdermal principles. Kirkman's Magnesium Sulfate Cream, according to the company, is a soft, creamy and very quickly absorbed emulsion containing 100 mg. of Magnesium Sulfate USP per one gram of cream.
