Can anyone tell me what they do about face psoriasis?

Are the spots little? I had about 10 small spots on my face about 4 weeks ago and I bought some stuff from www.lush.com and it has all disappered. I am using the Aquamarina cleanser and followed by eau toner and skin drink as the face cream. It was pretty much gone after 1 week of use 2 times a day. I too was very scared seeing P on my face. Hope that help you.

vitamin E capsules, snip them open and rub into the lesion - helps with the itch and the healing.

    Joyce,

It's important not to wash your face with soap or perfumed cleansers and to moisturize. If you have a derm ask him/her about protopic or elidel. They are scripts that work well on the face.

Consider make-up as a trigger. I know it is tempting to try to conceal it, but it really makes my face break out with peeling, redness and spots.

    Yeah ELidel!

Elidel can be a very safe and effective means to treat P on the face (or other areas where the skin tends to be thinner.

Alos, you mentioned that the spot are redder after you shower. When you skin is moist like that it is a godo time for you to put your meds on. When the skin is moist meds are absorbed more readily by the skin.

    Check out www.elidel.com

Angry Face P is public enemy number one!!!!

    Ouch, Joyce. That hurts.

You've gotten some pretty good advice. In addition to the above recommendations, you also might want to try some Protopic (www.protopic.com).

    Also, here's a link to a previous discussion about face p: http://www.psoriasis.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5466

    Joyce:

As most people here know, I have a similar case to yours (localized P on face, spreading to neck and chest). I recommend you use Miraderm especially if you have been using steriods which tend to compromise your skin health. Miraderm actually helps rebuild skin density, has no steroids and no coal tar. In cases like ours, I strongly recommend it. I've used it for more than a year.

As far as Elidel and Protopic, neither have been approved for psoriasis (eczema yes), and Elidel is actually an immunosuppresant. These may not be solutions you want to pursue after a bad steroid experience.

    Best,

One of the most frustrating things about psoriasis is that no one treatment works for everyone. Steve is correct in that Elidel is approved for eczema. However it's often prescribed for psoriasis. A lot of people who post here have had success in using Elidel to treat psoriasis in places like the face, underarms and groin area. Protopic is another med that's approved for exzema, but is often prescribed for and works well on psoriasis on the face, groin, underarms, etc.

I agree with MikeK. I have used Protopic in my face and ears and it worked great for P.

With all due respect, we have to agree to disagree on this one. I have never been in favor of prescribing products that have not been properly approved, unless the circumstances/diseases make it no choice. (HIV, Aggressive Cancers and RA or PA).

For example, Enbrel was being prescribed for PA WAY BEFORE it was approved for it, as it was originally an RA medication. HOWEVER, PA is IMHO an extrenuating circumstance, so I understand prescribing Enbrel with the appropriate education when it was not approved for PA.

A case like localized psoriasis is a different issue. There are still many alternatives before jumping into immunosuppresants.

I am sure Protopic and Elidel manufacturers are lobbying hard to get into the P market before their effectiveness is properly tested. I, for one, do not
favor this approach. Mind you, I am not undermining the terrors of P; only stating that localized P still has a variety of solutions which do not require immunosuppresant topicals, and less those that are not approved.

As usual, I can handle healthy discussions, so comments are welcome.

Click on "User CP" (in gray on the bluish gray line) near the top left corner of the screen. Then click on "edit signiture" under "settings and options" on the left of the screen. Type your signiture line, click on preview and then click on save. It's slightly more complicated if you want to include a picture, but that's all there is to it.

Steven...You seem very nice, so don't take it wrong when I say that I'm glad my derm is more open minded then you seem to be.

P on the face is no light thing. You seem to think it's no big deal, but I can tell you it has caused me such terrible grief...you really have no idea. I have had it for over two decades and the impact on all areas of my life, from the personal to the professional was huge.

I have tried and used every 'approved' topical, so when she (my derm) suggested I try Elidel, I really didn't have much hope of it being any different. I guess you could say I was a hardened sceptic at that point.

But it has literally changed my life.

Imagine having a huge dark red birthmark across the center of your face. And sometimes it blisters, for no apparent reason, just to make you extra miserable. Imagine that you are otherwise young and beautiful...except for this. Imagine living with it....for years.

Now imagine that your Dr. gives you some samples of a new cream to try. You try it, and nothing happens...at first. But you think...what the hell, at least it has a nice moisturizing effect. So you keep on using it for a few days more.

Then you start to notice a difference. The huge red mark that greets you in the mirror every morning, the red face that perfect (or maybe not so perfect) strangers have sometimes felt uncontrollable curiosity about, have discussed openly amoungst themselves about, made fun about, is getting lighter and hasn't blistered in some time.

Finally it gets to the point where you wake up in the morning...

    and you look NORMAL

Just try and imagine that, Steven, if you can.

And then try not to be quite so opinionated. Your discouragement could be preventing someone from the one thing that might help them.

    Just a thought
    Thanks for listening...

Sorry for the late reply. I was out for quite a while.

Rather than continue a discussion that unfortunately took the wrong direction, I will say that I am happy that Elidel worked for you, as I am happy when ANYONE finds a solution to any health problem.

The only thing I discourage is blindly accepting advice without truly understanding side effects and possible consequences. I do suffer from something other than P, for which I have to make very hard therapy choices. I make those hard choices along with my doctors and move forward. It is my hope that all dermatologists follow the same approach with their suggestions.

Reading about people who UNKNOWINGLY develop other health issues due to medication is an issue that hits close to home, and really hurts me. That is why I think clinical studies are needed and due process is necessary.

If I have been too fanatical about this, I do sincerely apologize.

    Best to all,

    Steven

    P.S. Not a doctor.

Psorcon or its "other" name -
    Diflorasone Diacetate Cream USP, 0.05%

I've used this on my face, round the nose, chinline, on the ears, in the ears and in the eyebrows with excellent results. It isn't a cure, BUT if you were to focus on that area for an entire tube, you would be clear within 6 weeks or so.

Because of the amount of P I have, a tube wouldn't clear your entire body, but focused useage on my belly button kept it clear for 8 months.

    Cheers,

    Unhappy Miraderm will try

My facial psoriais has done nothing but increase of the last 5 years.
It went from a few areas along the hairline, to my nose, eyelids,
    forehead and cheeks.

I use a combo of Tazorac and Protopic. Tazorac takes about week
to remove the redness and gives me 2 - 4 days of clearing without
    needing reapplication.

Protopic works great in only about 2 days...but doesn't last long.
For me it's about a 2 days on, 2 days off cycle.

Will Miraderm work safely on the eyelids? I'm looking from a safe
facial product that will last longer than a week before the spots
reappear. May also try the shampoo. I use the new super Denorex
shampoo with .3% salyic acid in it.

I tried my son's Elidel on my face once with good results. I also had the beginnings of some plaques creep on my face and a cream from Bath and Body WOrks actually did wonders for me - it's called Skin Repair cream - it's basically Shea and Jojoba butter in a cream form.

Let us know how you do and what if anything works/

Hello I'm new to this forum.

I have been using Cetaphil (moisturizing Cream) has seemed to work for me. I apply it at least twice a day and keeps the P, off the face pretty well and all over the body.
